GOSPEL JN 1:19-28

This is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, "Who are you?" He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, "I am not the Christ." So they asked him, "What are you then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." So they said to him, "Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?" He said: "I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said." Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?" John answered them, "I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie." This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Reflection:

Today's Gospel invites us to reflect upon d life of John the Baptist (JB).

JB is questioned by the priests & Levites - Then who r u?  John's answer makes it very clear that he is conscious of his mission: to prepare the Messiah's coming. John answers: I am the voice crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord (Jn 1:23).

To be Christ's voice means d person who announces abt d Savior of d world & d 1 who prepares His coming. This was John's mission.

What is our mission???

V all, called to holiness by Christ, hv to become His voice in this broken world. Bz this world is often living with its back turned to God, lacking in love for man.

Today, it is a need of d hour that v make Jesus present & make Him known with d example of our lives & our words.
With all our hearts, let us b gr8ful to God for d call to share Jesus wt others & d mission of being His instruments in this present world.

I m Christ's voice, His heart & eyes. May God help me to renew my sincere desire to b faithful to Him.
